Mommy’s Little Helper

Gabriel is my constant shadow. From errands to laundry to cooking to cleaning, he watches what I do, copies what I do, and helps me with almost everything! It is precious. Here are a few recent examples.

He loves to vacuum the kitchen floor.

He loves to help me bake. This was a batch of whole wheat & oat bread. Isn’t he adorable in his “Baker In Training” apron?!

And tonight he learned how to wash dishes. You can see he got rather wet, but he loved helping!

  1. I just saw one of those tower for the first time the other day, what a fabulous invention! Where did you get yours?

I have a little hand held vacuum, and the kids could use that thing all day! I need to find a way to make picking up toys just as fun… if you have any tips, send them my way!

  2. he is just absolutely adorable. The color of his hair is amazing. Wow. Such cute pictures of Gabriel helping Mommy! Reminds me so much of Kara 🙂

  3. @Krista~ his grandpapa made it for him with his crazy woodworking skills. 🙂 It even folds up for slick & easy storage! Its design was conceived long ago, though, when he made one for Colin so he could help our mom chop onions and make French toast when he was just 18 months old.
Oh, and as for picking up toys – somehow Gabriel thinks that’s fun too, most of the time. (??) Part of it is because he’s semi OCD (ahem, he’s my kid), and part of it is because he always watches me put things away & he is fascinated with copying me. But also, we’ve recently started playing “The Obedience Game” after dinner, where we are teaching him new things we want him to do quickly & obediently. For rewards and reinforcement, he gets one chocolate chip for completing a new task. After getting used to an action in that game (with the chocolate chip reward) a few times, he is starting to do it just as cheerfully on command in real-life, without the facade of game + chocolate chip. Anyway, it is working well so far. But other than that, I’ve got no tips. I’m sure you’re much more experienced at it than I am!

  4. I was going to ask if your dad made that amazing step stool tower. How cool! I’ve never seen anything like that. I LOVE it.
What a cute obedience game, too. Maybe I’ll give it a try!

  5. I love the idea of the tower too and hadn’t heard or seen one until I saw the on your dad made for Gabriel on your blog!
That’s great that he loves to help and I like the obedience game and chocolate chip concept ;o)

  6. TOO CUTE! I love the tower; it’s genius! Gabriel is definitely a big helper now! I love the apron.
That last picture where he is looking right at the camera; he kind of looks like Colin there 😉
