I have found a new hobby.
A new instrument.
The organ.
Yes, our church bought a new organ recently, and I am hooked.
I went to play on it for a while one day last week, and then played organ yesterday in church for the prelude & meditation.
L.o.v.e.d. it!
So I am thinking of buying some organ music, and trying to hone some skills.
Wondering if I will actually have time or wherewithal or talent for this…
but definitely hoping. 🙂
And hoping that church will be wanting an organist sometimes instead of just a pianist. 🙂
Sometimes they want me as a harpist, so I’m crossing my fingers.
Neato! I always thought organs looked so complicated to play….are they really a lot harder than a piano?

@yourfriendjc – Hi Jac! 🙂 I am not sure I would say organ is necessarily harder… but I know, for me, yes it is. 🙂 Especially if you use the pedals. (I used them during one whole song, not at all during another, and then just used two of the pedals for another.) Articulation is different and takes practice. You can’t control dynamics; everything is one volume, adjusted with a pedal. It also is more complex in getting set up, since you can adjust the way it sounds with “stops”, and since there are two consoles (keyboards) you need to set how you want, etc.
So anyway… 🙂 I think it’s a bit more complicated than piano, although mostly mechanically, not so much in theory – because the theory is pretty close to the same.
We’ll see how much I change this tune once I order some “real” organ music – I was only playing piano music on it before, and doing improv with the pedals. 🙂
I totally forgot that you played the harp! But Jac reminded me of when you had your pic with it on the front of LWS…
It sounds like the organ has a lot of customizations!~S
I love organ! I am not (and was not) an instrumentalist, but I remember that organ majors were rare because it was considered that much more difficult than piano. I am so impressed that you are able to pick it up without instruction! That’s wonderful!
