Creating Memories

The daily and weekly rituals of your life add up.
Not only do they create your past,
but they quite possibly also create the past of someone you love.
What you choose to do with those moments,
in addition to the value you place on them,
can mean the difference in creating lasting memories
or creating none at all.

  • What do you do to purposely & purposefully create memories in your family and with your children?
  • Has there ever been something that you thought, I want my kids to remember that! and how did you follow through?
  • What memories from your own childhood do you cherish the most?
  • What memories from your own childhood surprise you by taking up brain cells you could live without?
  • What memories do you want your own children (or the children you interact with) to take with them throughout their lives?
  • How do you pursue consistency in creating a lifetime of daily routines that you pray will mesh into memories worth keeping?

Over the next few days, I will be highlighting a few little things that we do in our family, along with answering some of these questions above, and I hope you will follow along and chime in (please comment with your thoughts!). Conversations are way more fun when they aren’t monologues, right? ;)

  1. As being a mommy that has been very sick for almost two years we have slowed down our life quite a bit to make sure I get to spend as much time with the girls as possible. Realizing we never know what tomorrow will bring and cherishing the little things more and more and not being so busy! We have tried to set aside sat mornings for slow mornings with no sports, so we can stay in our pjs longer and have a pancake breakfast and sometimes do our family devotions in the morning instead to switch up things instead of rushing off to the soccer field at 7 am! Also lots of snuggles in bed with mommy at night and dinner on our master bedroom floor to be together..trying to really stress to the girls being together and having fun doesn’t have to mean going to Disney world…just a few thoughts as I sit and snuggle with my girls on a cloudy day!

For now, I’ll just answer the one question-“What memories from your own childhood do you cherish the most?”

It’s hard to narrow it down to the ones I cherish the most but camping and day trips are at the top there. I loved exploring, picnic lunches, going on hikes, just being outdoors and so much more. So many wonderful memories made! Also birthdays have always been special; I loved it when there were surprises! Just spending time together, as a family, in general was and still is such a blessing. We were almost always together for dinner and I loved that time. Another blessing/memory from childhood is being involved with raising animals- goats, calves, puppies/dogs, kittens/cats, chickens, turkeys etc… I loved growing up a “farm girl”.
