I am learning that simply waiting may not be completely waiting on the Lord. I desperately want to know the depths and breadth of truly waiting on the Lord. So I am going through the Scriptures which talk about it.
Pray for me, that He would reveal this wisdom to me, His daughter.

  • Genesis 49:18 “I wait for Your salvation, O LORD.”
  • Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!”
  • Psalm 31:24 “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!”
  • Psalm 33:20 “Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.”
  • Psalm 37:7 “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!”
  • Psalm 37:9 “…those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.”
  • Psalm 37:34 “Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.”
  • Psalm 38:15 “But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is You, O Lord my God, who will answer.”
  • Psalm 39:7 “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You.”
  • Psalm 40:1 “I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry.”
  • Psalm 130:5-6 “I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”
  • Proverbs 20:22 “Do not say, ‘I will repay evil’; wait for the LORD, and He will deliver you.”
  • Isaiah 8:17 “I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in Him.”
  • Isaiah 25:9 “It will be said on that day, ‘Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, that He might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for Him; let us be glad and rejoice in His salvation.'”
  • Isaiah 26:8 “In the path of Your judgments, O LORD, we wait for You; Your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul.”
  • Isaiah 30:18 “Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore He exalts Himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him.”
  • Isaiah 33:2 “O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for You. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.”
  • Isaiah 40:31 “…but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
  • Isaiah 49:23 “…Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who wait for Me shall not be put to shame.”
  • Lamentations 3:25-26 “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.”

  1. May I recommend Be Still My Soul by Elisabeth Elliot? I am going through it right now and found this especially helpful.

“Psalm 16:5 is one of my life verses now. ‘Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup and have made my lot secure.’ My ‘lot’ is what happens to me—my share of that which comes by the will of the Power that rules my destiny. My lot includes the circumstances of my birth, my upbringing, my job, my hardships, the people I work with, my marital status, hindrances, obstacles, accidents, and opportunities. Everything constitutes my lot. Nothing excepted. If I can accept that fact at every turn in the road, I have indeed stepped into His everlasting arms even more securely, and there I will find peace and joy…

Our major problems of acceptance and trust usually have to do with timing, because God’s timetable is always different from ours. He wants me to wait in order to believe, in order to learn to put my faith in His timing.” ~E.E.

A different kind of waiting, yes, but I am waiting too, and often get impatient and even hopeless at times. My hope MUST be in Him. Thank you for sharing all of those encouraging verses on this subject.

  2. I never thought of it like that before. Wow. It’s true though… waiting is usually never “just waiting”. The Scripture you posted is excellent and very thought-provoking! I’ll pray for you! Will you pray for me? Thanks 🙂

  3. Sam & Jac~ I will pray for you both. I know what your hearts long for. It is a beautiful, honorable, pure desire. I pray He will bless you both! Not only with the specific desires of your hearts, but also in the meanwhile as He asks you to wait on Him.
In my experience, the “meanwhile” can be so long, so hard. (((hugs))) Love to you both.
